You may, once in a while, catch me saying that winter or fall is my favourite season. And it's true, I do love both those times of year. But when it comes down to it, it's spring that really gets under my skin. Longer days, warmer temperatures, all very nice. I love the smell of rain and freshly damp earth.

This morning I heard a cardinal singing. It's not the first time this year I've heard that -- that was probably three days ago, I would guess. But it was this time that I realized that it definitely means spring is on its way. From here on in I can expect to see birds coming back, the trees starting to bud, the spring ephemerals poking their flowers out through the snow... In a week or maybe two I can look forward to the first mourning cloak butterflies sailing around the sugar bush.

It's not that I hate winter by any means. But spring is an exciting time of year; something new to see every day.

Back from Cuba and in that weird sort of nether-region that encompasses the day after. Something feels different and yet everything feels the same, and I'm not quite sure what to do with myself, or how to capture the wide-eyed wonder that was my permanent state on the trip now that I'm back on familiar ground.

I saw many, many things, and learned more, and to process it all is going to take some time. Until then I'm going to make some coffee and do my laundry. Hasta luego.

There's a lot to love about this video. The music for the first segment. The fact that it's basically Marbleworks for adults. Um. Everything. I could go on. But I won't. You'll just have to watch it for yourself. Amazingly entertaining. Watch some of the others, too. The contest is particularly enthralling. I love the commentator. Aside from that, the machine itself is just incredible, even if the quality of the video is not.

Also, I believe this is a Moment for this site, with a capital "M". The very first time I have linked to that blackest of black holes, YouTube.
