2007-01-18, 01:17 PM — out of focus

I think part of what I'm lacking in my life is focus right now. Not something to focus on. There are plenty of things I could focus on. Plenty of things I do focus on really hard for about fifteen minutes to an hour at a time.

I was just reading Amy Kim Ganter's blog and thinking about how I had purchased pencils and "how to draw" books and I still haven't gotten around to drawing more than one face. I just can't focus on it long enough. I'd love to learn how to draw manga. But I've got no focus.

Same with writing. Nanowrimo gives me focus. It makes me write, whether I want to or not. And I get some good stuff out of it, too. And a feeling of satisfaction and self-worth. But ask me if I've written anything substantial -- really, anything at all -- in the last month? Um, no.

Anyway. Maybe going back to school will help. Maybe working full time again will help. Maybe having a house will help. All these things might help. But I think I probably need to take a little more control myself, rather than hoping my circumstances will help me sort it out.

Grumble grumble. I should go focus on... lunch, or something.

2006-11-29, 11:32 PM — two things about tonight

Two things have happened this evening. Well, two things I'm going to note here.

The first is a bad thing. It is the reason I hate people with dogs. I really like dogs, but I hate people who have dogs. Specifically those who do not clean up after their dogs, so that unsuspecting, trusting people like me step in it when we are locking up the outside gates in the dark. Whoever you are, jerkface, if I ever catch you I might be tempted to rub your nose in it.

The second thing is this:

I made it! Spectacular! The last ... three thousand words have been really, really painfully difficult, I'll admit. But the novella itself is actually almost done and I'm fairly proud of it. It's going to be another 2000 words or so, I think. I'd like to have it done for good by the end of this weekend. But I hit my 50000 word mark tonight. So that makes up for stupid people. Hooray!
