2006-04-27, 05:29 PM — spring is still sprunging

Today was a fabulous spring day. After the muck of earlier in the week - which I freely admit was necessary for growth - today was a complete relief. I needed it.

Seen today: my first damselfly (teneral, I have no idea what kind it was), a pine warbler, a mourning cloak and a spring azure butterfly, a carpenter bee, blooming trilliums, trout lilies, and spring beauty, three painted turtles, and a swallow I suspect may have been a rough-winged.

The walk today was just what I needed, really. It relaxed me and put me in a wonderful mood.

Oooh, embarrassing. I just woke up and realized that I wrote palm warbler. I meant pine warbler. Pine warblers are early. It was my first of the season! But it was not a palm warbler. Sorry.

2006-04-24, 05:57 AM — my poor brain

Ugh. 5:30am is a time no human should have to face.

2006-04-16, 02:59 PM — went back again

Today's gorgeous spring walk produced a pair of red-tailed hawks and a half-dozen tree swallows, not to mention many, many ring-necked ducks again. The canvasbacks are still there, and there were common mergansers this time, too. Everyone else must have been off fishing or some such thing.

New today were a pair of ospreys and a field sparrow who had been tempting me with his calls. He let us have a really good look today, though.
