![]() 2006-02-10, 10:42 PM Olympic patience A couple of observations: 1. Who the hell can blame athletes for not wanting to sit through the opening ceremonies? My god, I'm not even there and I've shut off the TV even though Brian Williams was assuring me that there's "lots more to come." 2. Peter Mansbridge is awesome. By far the best entertainment of the evening. The man is a news anchor, and you can tell, even when he's narrating interpretive dance. 3. I don't really have the sorts of friends who will sit and watch all the women's hockey games with me, and join me when I jump up and scream as they score the gold medal goal. This makes me kind of sad. fishy will join me, but he will look askance when I scream, and groan as he picks up the celebration popcorn. 4. I'm going to have to start saving for a ticket to the 2010 opening ceremonies, aren't I. 2006-02-07, 06:21 PM tank progressing well Okay, update time. I've got a couple things to report. Pleco is settling in nicely. He's hanging out in his cave, but he's spending a lot more time out and on the glass or on the driftwood. He's crimping the hell out of my vals, has ripped out the water sprite, and knocked the anubias off the driftwood. Destructive beast. He's so cool. Purchased and introduced nine neon rainbowfish in a little school on Saturday. They're beautiful. I think I definitely made the right choice. They're also quite curious and energetic, which makes me happy. Elppa has been coming out more often, and he's absolutely massive. I can't believe how much that snail has grown since he came here. It was especially obvious when I hadn't really gotten a good look at him for four days, and then he was creeping up the glass. The snail has grown almost an inch of shell since I got him. Trying some cucumber in the tank tonight, we'll see if anyone eats it. I'm beginning to suspect that all this nonsense about fresh veggies being loved by fish is just a joke on us newbies. 2006-01-30, 02:08 PM Elppa the snail So, if you haven't, go see the picture of Elppa the golden apple snail on fork. He resides in my tank, now that things are cycled! I'm completely enamoured. You'll notice the caption of the photo says "she." I checked. "She"'s a definite "he." Who knew that apple snails had penis sheaths? They do. Next will be to get a photo of the pleco, who moved in this weekend. But since he's a fairly high-strung fellow, don't count on that happening any time soon. He's managed to spray sand all over the tank and uproot at least one plant in less than 24 hours thanks to various flipping-out moments. I'm thinking of taking out a few of the rocks in there to create a little more space for him to move around. And I'm wondering if they create tomato-cage type things for protecting aquarium plants from spazzy fish? Incidentally, Elppa has not been seen since the pleco was added. Poor guy. |
